Abstract
Work housewives in the public works sector and the domestic sector needs attention and appreciation from various parties, both public and government. In most cultures housewife working people is seen as non• productive work and less valuable. The study of public sector jobs and domestic sectors in developed countries have been carried out which revealed that public sector employment and the domestic sector has a high economic value and contributes significantly to GDP. The scope of this study is a cross-sectional study using survey methods. Primary data derived from the use of the time that do housewives and families to work in the public sector such as in offices, workers, shop (business), and the domestic sector is the provision offood consumption, clothing care, child care, home care, elderly care and value use time based housework Mother City area. Secondary data includes BPS Palembang, leteratur, the general state of the research sites. Assessment methods housework done by, the opportunity cost of the minimum wage of workers in the same labor market with household duties applicable in Palembang.Originality of this study compared with existing studies, lies in the topics and methods. Topics related to the economic value of the use of a public sector and domestic sector in the provision of food consumption activities, home care, nursing clothing, child care, elderly care performed by Housewives, and that is not done in other studies.
