Abstract

Traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of death worldwide, with excessive vehicle speed being one of the dominant factors the cause. Therefore, there is a need for a system that can effectively monitor and provide warnings to reduce the risk. This research aims to design and develop a motor vehicle speed alarm and monitoring system that can provide immediate notification to the driver when the vehicle is overspeeding, or vehicle speed exceeds a predetermined threshold. This system was designed using an infrared sensor integrated with an Arduino Uno microcontroller to calculate vehicle speed in real time. If the speed exceeds the program, a buzzer will sound as a warning to the driver. System testing showed that this device can work with high accuracy in detecting vehicle speed and providing timely warnings. System implementation expected to help reduce the number of traffic accidents caused by overspeed by providing a practical, efficient, timely solution that is easy to apply on various types of vehicles.
