Abstract
The success of public programs and policies heavily depends on the quality of government personnel, particularly within local bureaucracies. This study aims to analyze the influence of employee competence and physical work environment on employee performance at the Youth and Sports Department (DISPORA) of Bandar Lampung City. The research focuses on two key variables: competence, referring to an individual's ability to perform tasks professionally and effectively; and the physical work environment, encompassing the adequacy and comfort of workplace facilities. This study employs a quantitative research approach using questionnaires and documentation as data collection techniques. The sample includes 48 DISPORA employees, The results indicate that (1) competence has a positive and significant influence on employee performance; (2) the physical work environment also has a positive and significant influence on employee performance; and (3) both competence and physical work environment simultaneously have a positive and significant impact on employee performance. The findings suggest that improving employee competence and enhancing the physical work environment are strategic steps in boosting the performance of government personnel. These results are expected to serve as a basis for formulating human resource management policies in the public sector. Key words: competence, physical work environment, employee performance
